The Who, What, Why of Small Business.

Is Starting a Business or Going Freelance Right for You?

It has to be said, starting and growing a small business is not for everyone. It takes a surprising amount of hard work and a willingness to keep on top of everything that makes a business successful.  It is also incredibly rewarding.

Here are a few articles that will help you understand whether starting a business is right for you.

What Kind of Business is Right for You?

There are three basic kinds of businesses.

  1. Product – you sell any kind of product whether it be digital or a hard good
  2. Service – you provide a service to a consumer or business. You sell your time.
  3. Freelance – you sell to businesses that need additional expertise but do not need another full time employee. You’re focused on selling your time but not adding employees to the roster.

When it comes to the cost of starting the three business, products are the most expensive as there can be substantial costs associated with product development, production and delivery. Service and freelance businesses sell hours of service. Startup costs are limited to the tools needed to deliver the service.
